Abstract [en]

In 2015, the United Nations decided to make the world better through 17 sustainable goals containing 169 sub-goals to be achieved by 2030. To meet these goals, all countries, organizations and individuals must cooperate. Each country has its own responsibility to ensure that its various activities contribute to meet these goals. Energy companies play an important role and have a direct impact on many of the sustainable goals when it comes to social, economic and environmental issues. The sustainable goals are about for example combating CO2 emissions, equality, unsustainable energy systems, unsustainable consumption etc.

The purpose of this work is to evaluate Göteborg Energi’s impact on the goals in Agenda 2030. The purpose is to investigate and analyze how Göteborg Energi performs, impacts, and can improve based on the sustainable goals in UN Agenda 2030.

This work is limited to Göteborg Energi and the City of Gothenburg. All input data are obtained from Göteborg Energi and therefore the results are only related to Göteborg Energi's operations. Of Agenda 2030's 169 sub-goals, the focus will only be on 24 sub-goals that are relevant to Göteborg Energi. Literature studies and all inputs data have been obtained from environmental reports, interviews and sustainable reports from Göteborg Energi.

Based on the results of the total relevant sub-goals, Göteborg Energi fulfills 14 sub-goals and partly fulfils 8 sub-goals. Of the total relevant sub-goals, there are only 2 sub-goals that Göteborg Energi does not fulfils. The technical energy measures that proposed for Göteborg Energi led to a 166 tones reduction of CO2 emission and also a saving energy of 711 GWh.
