The purpose of this paper is to see how open innovation can be applied in the internationalization process of food-tech companies. This has been done by using a comparative research design and a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews to collect data. The collected data indicates that there is not a good amount of gathered knowledge regarding open innovation, food-tech and internationalization as a whole, however the data does show that there is an adequate amount of knowledge in each of these topics. The results of the study has shown that open innovation is suitable for food-tech companies to use in an internationalization process and presented concrete examples of how it can be done. With the results, the researchers have also been able to suggest potential pathways for future research on this subject.
