Abstract [en]

ABSTRACT

This study examines the implementation of sustainable design in Swedish constructionprojects, with the aim of reducing environmental impact and improving efficiency. Theresearch methodology includes a literature review, case studies of sustainable buildings and acomprehensive analysis of guidelines, certifications, material selection and architecturaldesign solutions and technologies. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate theintegration of sustainability principles in building planning and design to create energyefficient and environmentally friendly structures. By conducting a thorough literature reviewand analyzing selected Swedish buildings, including Juvelen in Uppsala, Nationalarenan 3and Johanneberg Science Park in Gothenburg, the study examines the building strategies, material choices and practical solutions used to achieve sustainable design. Method: Themethodology involves reviewing established guidelines and certifications such asMiljöbyggnad, BREEAM, NollCO2, Citylab, GreenBuilding and LEED to understand thestandards and criteria for sustainable construction. In addition, the study explores theimportance of material selection and investigates various architectural design solutions andtechnologies, including solar panels and green roofs and facades, by conducting a case studyof 3 Swedish certified building projects and investigating what these projects have done tobecome certified and what lessons are being learned of their choice. Results: The resultsshow the importance of incorporating sustainability principles into the design process. Thestudy shows the potential for energy efficiency and environmental benefits through the use ofsustainable materials, architectural design solutions and energy solutions. The analysis of thecase studies shows the successful implementation of sustainable practices in Swedishconstruction projects, and emphasizes the positive impact on both the environment andefficiency. Conclusions: In summary, this study provides valuable insights into theimplementation of sustainable design in Swedish construction projects. It emphasizes theimportance of integrating sustainability principles into building planning and design, highlighting the potential for energy efficiency and environmental benefits. The resultscontribute to the knowledge and understanding of sustainable building design and providerecommendations for further research and development in this area
