Denna kvalitativa studie undersöker professionellas erfarenheter av att arbeta med barn som utsatts för sexuella övergrepp på nätet, med särskilt fokus på känslor av skuld och skam samt förövarens manipulationsstrategier. Genom semistrukturerade intervjuer med yrkesverksamma inom socialt arbete och rättsväsende identifieras centrala utmaningar, såsom hur skuld och skam påverkar barnens benägenhet att söka hjälp och försvårar deras återhämtning. Studien belyser även skillnader mellan digitala och fysiska övergrepp, där digitala övergrepp ofta präglas av långvarig oro över spridning av material och en känsla av maktlöshet, medan fysiska övergrepp tenderar att ge upphov till djupare skam relaterad till kroppen. Med hjälp av tematisk analys enligt Braun och Clarke (2008) framträder betydelsen av att professionella skapar trygga och stöttande miljöer, där barn bemöts med empati och utan dömande attityder. Studien betonar vikten av att professionella kommunicerar att ansvaret för övergreppen ligger hos förövaren och inte hos barnet. Dessutom framhålls behovet av riktade insatser för att återge barn som utsatts för digitala övergrepp en känsla av kontroll och trygghet. Studien lyfter även fram vikten av utbildning för professionella, tvärprofessionellt samarbete och utveckling av evidensbaserade metoder för att möta barnens specifika behov. Resultaten bidrar till en fördjupad förståelse av de komplexa mekanismer som präglar sexuella övergrepp på nätet och erbjuder praktiska insikter för framtida arbete och stödinsatser för barn som utsatts.

This qualitative study explores the experiences of professionals working with children who have been subjected to online sexual abuse, with a particular focus on feelings of guilt and shame, as well as the perpetrators' manipulation strategies. Through semi-structured interviews with professionals in social work and law enforcement, key challenges are identified, including how guilt and shame influence children’s willingness to seek help and complicate their recovery process. The study also highlights differences between physical and digital abuse, where digital abuse is often characterized by prolonged fear of material dissemination and a sense of helplessness, while physical abuse tends to evoke deeper shame related to the body. Using thematic analysis according to Braun and Clarke (2008), the study emphasizes the importance of creating safe and supportive environments where children are met with empathy and without judgment. It underscores the need for professionals to communicate that responsibility for the abuse lies solely with the perpetrator and not the child. Moreover, targeted interventions are essential to help children who have experienced digital abuse regain a sense of control and security. The study also highlights the importance of education for professionals and the development of evidence-based methods to address the specific needs of affected children. The findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the complex mechanisms underpinning online sexual abuse and provide practical insights for future efforts and support initiatives aimed at children who have been exposed to such abuse.
