Abstract [en]

Background: Pressure ulcers negatively impact patients' mental, physical, and socialwellbeing, with the associated pain causing significant suffering. To prevent pressure ulcers,adequate and person-centered care should be provided, with treatment tailored to eachpatient’s individual needs. The nurse’s role includes ensuring patient safety and involving thepatient, relatives, and other caregivers. Purpose: The purpose was to describe nurses'experiences in preventing pressure ulcers. Method: A general literature review wasconducted, utilizing twelve articles in the results, seven qualitative and five quantitative.Results: Nurses reported that a lack of staff and resources negatively impacted their workand hindered the provision of proper care. Teamwork was essential for pressure ulcerprevention, involving patients, relatives, and other caregivers. Education on pressure ulcersand their prevention was crucial, however, a lack of knowledge and competence led toinadequate care or incorrectly applied treatments. Conclusions: Effective pressure ulcerprevention requires a sustainable work environment, good communication, and adequateeducation. Additionally, involving patients, family members, and other healthcare providersis crucial to achieving the best possible outcomes
