The purpose of this work is to see if external stakeholders to a construction project have any connection to additional costs, measured through the stakeholder-impact-index. And to see how internal stakeholder management in the form of communication affects the same outcome. The method in this thesis will be a case study of two projects in water and drainage. One in Hyndevad, Eskilstuna and one in Sätra, Västerås. To get a good understanding of the projects and the crucial stakeholders, semi-structured interviews will be conducted with the person whose role was construction manager. To strengthen the results, engineering calculations will also be carried out linked to the stakeholders' attitude to the project. In the results, the stakeholder impact index calculations will be presented for each of the projects in a tabular structure. The calculations show that the external stakeholders in Hyndevad had a significantly more positive attitude towards the project than the external stakeholders in Sätra. Based on interviews, it will be presented how the communication between stakeholders and project team was carried out during the projects, addressing specific events where a link can be drawn between stakeholder management and possible cost increases. Finally, for the conclusion, based on these two projects, there is some correlation between stakeholder attitudes and communication over time and cost outcomes. And the communication part plays its role in it as well.
